Respiratory Health

"When you can't breathe, nothing else matters." — American Lung Association

Breathing is the most fundamental thing your body does — and when it is compromised, everything else suffers. Whether you are managing a chronic respiratory condition, recovering from illness, working toward quitting smoking, or simply trying to breathe easier and more freely, Natura offers comprehensive, integrative respiratory care that addresses the full picture of your lung and airway health.

Our Approach

Respiratory health is rarely just about the lungs. Inflammation, immune function, gut health, environmental exposures, genetics, and lifestyle all play meaningful roles in how your respiratory system functions — and how well it recovers when challenged. At Natura, we look at all of these factors together, building an individualized care plan that goes beyond symptom management to address the underlying drivers of your respiratory condition.

We are proud to have a dedicated respiratory therapist on our care team — a significant asset that allows us to offer a level of respiratory expertise and support that goes well beyond what most integrative clinics provide. Our naturopathic providers and respiratory therapist work together to deliver coordinated, thorough respiratory care for each patient.

We also recognize that family history and genetics can play a meaningful role in respiratory health — influencing susceptibility to asthma, inflammatory conditions, and more.

Conditions We Support

Asthma - Asthma is one of the most common chronic respiratory conditions — and one of the most responsive to an integrative approach. We work to identify and address your specific triggers, reduce airway inflammation, support immune resilience, and optimize your overall respiratory function alongside any conventional medications you may be using.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Chronic Bronchitis & Emphysema - For patients living with COPD and related conditions, our goal is to support the best possible quality of life — slowing progression, managing symptoms, reducing exacerbations, and helping you stay as active and independent as possible through naturopathic therapies, breathing support, and lifestyle medicine.

Recurrent & Acute Upper Respiratory Infections - Some patients seem to catch every cold that comes around — or struggle to recover fully when they do get sick. We support patients with both acute upper respiratory infections and patterns of recurrent illness, addressing immune function, inflammation, and the underlying factors that make the respiratory tract vulnerable to repeated infection.

Allergic Rhinitis & Respiratory Allergies - Airborne allergens are among the most common triggers for respiratory symptoms. We test for allergic triggers and address both the allergic response and the underlying immune dysregulation that drives it.

Post-Viral Respiratory Syndromes - Respiratory symptoms that linger after viral illness — including Long COVID — are an increasingly recognized and undertreated problem. We support patients navigating post-viral fatigue, breathlessness, and persistent respiratory dysfunction with targeted naturopathic therapies aimed at recovery and restoration.

Pneumonia Recovery - Recovering from pneumonia can take longer than most people expect. We support patients in the recovery phase with immune support, nutritional therapy, and targeted treatments to restore full respiratory function.

Sleep Apnea - Sleep apnea has significant respiratory, cardiovascular, and metabolic consequences. We address sleep apnea as part of a whole-person approach that includes lifestyle modification, weight and metabolic support, and collaboration with sleep specialists when indicated.

Smoking Cessation & Recovery - Helping patients stop smoking — and supporting the body's recovery from the effects of smoking — is one of the most meaningful things we can do for long-term respiratory and overall health. Our approach to smoking cessation is holistic and deeply individualized. We support you as a whole person, not just someone trying to quit a habit. This may include nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), herbal support, nutritional therapies to support the body's healing and detoxification, and counseling to address the behavioral and emotional dimensions of tobacco dependence. We meet you where you are and build a plan that works for your life.

Pediatric Respiratory Conditions - Children are particularly vulnerable to respiratory illness and conditions like asthma and recurrent infections. We provide age-appropriate naturopathic respiratory support for pediatric patients.

Understanding your respiratory health requires looking at multiple layers. At Natura, testing may include:

  • In-office spirometry — to assess airflow and lung function as a baseline and monitoring tool

  • Allergy & trigger testinglaboratory-based testing to identify allergic sensitivities and environmental triggers contributing to your respiratory symptoms. Note: we do not perform skin prick testing in office.

  • Inflammatory markers — to assess the degree and type of inflammation contributing to your respiratory condition

  • Comprehensive lab testing — nutritional status, immune function, and other markers relevant to respiratory health.

  • Referrals for imaging — chest X-ray, CT, and other imaging when indicated, coordinated with radiology or your specialist

  • Pulmonology referrals — we refer to and collaborate with pulmonologists for advanced diagnostics, complex cases, and specialist-level evaluation when needed

  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) — available on-site at Natura, HBOT delivers high-concentration oxygen in a pressurized environment, supporting tissue oxygenation, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing in a range of respiratory and systemic conditions. [Link to HBOT page]

  • Nebulized therapies — nebulized treatments can be administered in-office for acute care support or recommended for home use, delivering targeted therapeutic agents directly to the airways

  • Hydrotherapy — we teach patients how to use specific hydrotherapy techniques at home for respiratory support, including steam inhalation, constitutional hydrotherapy, and contrast hydrotherapy — each prescribed based on your specific condition and needs

  • Herbal medicine — a rich botanical tradition supports respiratory health through anti-inflammatory, expectorant, immune-modulating, and airway-soothing botanicals

  • Nutritional therapy & supplementation — targeted nutrients to support lung tissue, reduce airway inflammation, and strengthen immune resilience

  • Prescription medications — we prescribe respiratory medications when clinically appropriate, and work thoughtfully alongside any medications prescribed by your other providers

  • Lifestyle medicine — environmental trigger reduction, air quality awareness, movement, breathing practices, and stress management as foundational pillars of respiratory health

  • Referrals & collaborative care — we work closely with pulmonologists, allergists, sleep specialists, and other providers to ensure you have the full team your respiratory health deserves
