Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, yet many of its most significant risk factors are modifiable — through the right testing, the right treatments, and a genuinely whole-person approach to care. At Natura, we partner with you to understand and address your cardiovascular health from the inside out.
Our Approach
The cardiovascular system doesn't operate in isolation. Blood pressure, cholesterol, circulation, and heart rhythm are all influenced by what you eat, how you sleep, how your kidneys function, how your body manages blood sugar, the state of your gut, your stress load, and your genetics. We look at all of it.
Our approach combines the best of naturopathic and conventional medicine — we run thorough diagnostics, prescribe medications when they are clearly warranted, and layer in evidence-based natural therapies to address root causes and support long-term cardiovascular resilience. We also maintain close working relationships with cardiologists and refer when a higher level of specialist care is needed.
Conditions We Support
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) - High blood pressure is rarely just a blood pressure problem. At Natura, we investigate underlying contributors — including kidney function, adrenal health, sodium and mineral balance, stress, sleep quality, and medication history. We prescribe antihypertensive medications when needed, review what has and hasn't worked for you in the past, and complement pharmaceutical care with herbal medicines and lifestyle strategies shown to meaningfully support healthy blood pressure.
High Cholesterol & Lipid Imbalances - We go well beyond a standard cholesterol panel. In-depth lipid testing gives us a far more detailed picture of your cardiovascular risk — including particle size, oxidized LDL, and other markers that standard labs miss. We address elevated cholesterol through targeted dietary support, gut health optimization, and blood sugar regulation, recognizing that cholesterol is deeply intertwined with overall metabolic health. Where medication is appropriate, we use it — and we work to understand and address why imbalances are occurring in the first place.
Varicose Veins & Venous Health - Varicose veins are a sign of venous insufficiency — a condition in which the walls and valves of the veins are under strain. At Natura, we offer holistic support for venous health, including herbal and nutritional therapies to strengthen vein walls, improve circulation, and minimize the risk of clotting. We work to address contributing factors such as inflammation, prolonged sitting or standing, and excess weight as part of a comprehensive venous support plan.
Arrhythmias & Atrial Fibrillation - In working alongside cardiology care, we work to support your heart's electrical signals, using a variety of naturopathic support and lifestyle optimization.
Metabolic Syndrome & Cardiovascular Risk Reduction For patients with metabolic syndrome or a strong family history of heart disease, we offer proactive, thorough risk assessment and a personalized prevention plan — addressing blood sugar, lipids, inflammation, weight, and lifestyle before more serious disease develops.
Lab tests for in-depth cardiovascular evaluation are determined by your provider and individualized to your case. Some of the many tests that we consider when taking a deeper dive into your cardiovascular health include:
In-depth lipid panels — advanced testing including LDL particle size, oxidized LDL, Lp(a), and apolipoprotein markers that go well beyond standard cholesterol numbers
Metabolic & blood sugar markers — fasting glucose, insulin, HbA1c, and other markers that reveal the relationship between metabolic health and cardiovascular risk
Kidney function — particularly relevant in hypertension; we assess creatinine, GFR, and urinary markers routinely
Inflammatory markers — hsCRP and other indicators of vascular inflammation
Hormonal & thyroid panels — thyroid dysfunction and hormonal imbalances are underrecognized contributors to cardiovascular risk
Nutritional assessment — deficiencies in magnesium, CoQ10, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and B vitamins all have direct cardiovascular relevance
Cardiology referrals & specialist testing — we refer to and collaborate with cardiologists for EKGs, echocardiograms, stress testing, Holter monitoring, and other cardiac evaluations when indicated
Testing We Use
Pharmaceutical prescriptions — we prescribe antihypertensives and other cardiovascular medications when they are in your best interest, and coordinate carefully with any other prescribers involved in your care. We also welcome conversations about medications you have questions or concerns about — including statins and other commonly prescribed cardiovascular drugs. We will walk you through the evidence, discuss risks and benefits honestly, and explore alternatives where they exist and are appropriate.
Herbal medicine — evidence-informed botanicals for blood pressure, lipid balance, vascular tone, and circulation
Nutritional therapy & supplementation — targeted nutrients, herbs, and others with meaningful cardiovascular evidence
Dietary support — individualized dietary guidance addressing cholesterol, blood sugar, inflammation, and overall metabolic health
Gut health support — the gut microbiome plays a significant and often overlooked role in cholesterol metabolism and cardiovascular inflammation
Lifestyle medicine — movement, stress management, sleep optimization, and smoking cessation support as foundational cardiovascular care
Referrals & collaborative care — we work closely with cardiologists, nephrologists, and other specialists to ensure you have the full team your heart health deserves
